Learning without Borders: Internationalizing the Gator Nation
The University of Florida is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Accreditation is reaffirmed every ten years. The University of Florida is undergoing reaffirmation of accreditation in 2013-14. Our reaffirmation process began with an off-site committee review of the university's compliance certification in November 2013. The on-site committee visits the campus February 18-20, 2014. The SACSCOC Board of Trustees determines the status of our reaffirmation at their December 2014 meeting.
A primary component of the reaffirmation process is the development of a five-year Quality Enhancement Plan. SACSCOC Core Requirement 2.12 states that this plan must “include an institutional process for identifying key issues emerging from institutional assessment and focus on learning outcomes and/or the environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution.” (SACSCOC, Core requirement 2.12). Furthermore, SACSCOC Comprehensive Standard 3.3.2 states that the Quality Enhancement Plan must “(1) demonstrate institutional capability for the initiation, implementation and completion of the QEP; (2) include broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the development and proposed implementation of the QEP; and (3) identify goals and a plan to assess their achievement.”
The University of Florida Quality Enhancement Plan is titled Learning without Borders: Internationalizing the Gator Nation. This plan is the result of three years of work by the members of the Internationalization Task Force - a group of faculty, administrators, and students who have contributed hundreds of hours and their expertise to its development. This plan has been submitted to the SACSCOC for their review.
