Academic Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Reporting

Assessment reporting at the University of Florida encompasses both academic (programmatic and course level) assessment and institutional effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with the university’s mission. All academic programs and administrative units participate in annual reporting to support data-informed decision-making and uphold institutional standards. The reporting process is essential for upholding the quality of UF’s programs and fostering the continuous evaluation of assessment methods and procedures. It enables the university to clearly communicate its internal assessment practices and use of data to stakeholders, while documenting evidence of UF’s commitment to continuous improvement across academic and non-academic units. This process also supports the university’s efforts to maintain accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Academic Assessment Reports: Faculty-led assessment planning and reporting is central to evaluating student learning across undergraduate, graduate, professional, and certificate programs. Each year, faculty develop assessment plans, implement them, analyze learning outcomes, and use findings to enhance program quality.
Institutional Effectiveness Reports: Administrative units contribute to institutional effectiveness by submitting annual data reports that reflect performance, progress, and strategic alignment. These reports support university-wide planning and improvement efforts.

This work would not be possible without the dedicated efforts of UF’s Accreditation and Assessment Coordinators.

UF's Accreditation & Assessment Coordinators are one or more individuals assigned by each of the university's units to coordinate with the Office of Accreditation, Assessment, and Curriculum on all matters related to reporting and continuous improvement.

Submitting Academic Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Data Reports

The UF Accreditation and Assessment Coordinators have the responsibility to collect and submit these annual data reports for their area at UF.  Each component of the Report is entered into its corresponding field in UF’s accreditation and assessment software program, Anthology (formerly Campus Labs).   Using the previous academic year’s data, reports are submitted annually by December.

As part of UF's continuous improvement process, our office reviews all of the reports submitted using an internal rubric. The rubric provides the criteria that should be addressed in each section of the report. As staff review the report and determine the degree to which it addresses or meets these criteria, they rate the report using the institutional assessment review rating scale (below), and provides feedback for report modification.

Each year at the end of May, all existing reports are rolled over for the next Academic Year in UF’s Anthology Planning software and are archived for future use.  The “rolled over” report contains all major report components including data from the previous year, allowing Assessment Coordinators to simply make changes and provide updated information based on the current year’s academic data and analyses.

Institutional Assessment Review Rating Scale:

  • Needs Attention (1):
Key items are missing (or incomplete) in the report section. Requires significant revision of narrative(s), sample instruments, SLOs, or other items.

  • Needs Minor Revision (2):
Items are addressed but are unclear or unsupported in the report section. Requires some revision, such as, including data in the narrative, providing a sample assessment instrument, or other items to support the narrative.

  • Well Done (3):
The section narrative presents a thorough and thoughtful analysis that is fully supported by relevant data. Relevant documents, including name-redacted data that supports the claims made in the report, are attached.
