Assessment and Curriculum Glossary


This glossary provides definitions for commonly used academic assessment and curriculum terms to support a shared understanding across the institution.

 

 

A formal, written plan that outlines an academic program’s mission, program goals, evaluation methods used to determine achievement of those goals, student learning outcomes (SLOs), and assessment methods used to measure student achievement of the SLOs. The plan also includes a curriculum map identifying the courses in which program-level SLOs are introduced, reinforced, and assessed, as well as a sample assessment instrument.

 

A brief narrative that identifies the knowledge, skills, and abilities students are expected to acquire by completing their major’s prescribed course of study.

 

 

A representative of the college/school who is responsible for submitting the annual Academic Assessment reports and providing other evidence to support university accreditation. 

 

A broad educational objective that describes what a course intends for students to achieve or become as a result of completing the course.

 

 

A matrix that illustrates the courses in which program Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) are introduced, reinforced, and assessed throughout the curriculum. It provides a visual representation of how assessments are distributed across the program.

 

A statement that specifies what students should know and be able to do upon completion of a program or course.
